Black Jewell Packaging

Black Jewell Packaging

Packaging re-design for Black Jewell Microwave Butter Popcorn. Eco-friendly considerations include dying the box and using one spot color to reduce the amount of ink needed, and creating a foldable package with as little adhesive as possible.

Black Jewell is natural and non-GMO. The corn is grown and produced in Indiana, and the business is still family owned. Their revised packaging adds an illustrative element, simplifies the design, and adds a texture to make the product appear more high-end and to match its retail price.

The package also now includes the company tagline, "Happy and healthy snacking." In the original packaging, there is a photograph, but it is unclear that the corn has black kernels and pops pure white. This design contains black corn kernels, and includes clarifying type. The revised packaging was made to still coincide with the individual popcorn bags. Three stack snuggly inside, but the box size was decreased a bit to lessen the amount of waste.
